Local Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered many other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative said the attack made him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
